Default Experience, experience... for what?

After the glorious hour when our char gets to level 20 and gets the 30 missing attribute points, what is the use of more experience? Sure, you get skill points to buy other skills, but now with Factions out there it is just TOO easy to get skill points.

I've been thinking, why not give chars 5 additional attribute points every 500k exp? If 500k is too little then put it at 1 million xp. Every 1 mil exp you get 5 more attribute points?

Example at 1 mil XP for 5 attribute points:
To bring an attribute to 12 without runes it costs 97 att points, most professions have 4 attributes + those of the secondary profession.

With 200 you can pump 2 of them to 12 and another to 3.

Therefore for a char which has 4 attributes from his 1st prof he's need 37.6 mil xp to get his primary attributes to 12 and 57 mil if he has 5.

Then he'd need another 58.2 (3 secondary attributes) or 77.6 (4 secondary attributes) million xp to get the rest of his skills to 12.

Therefore a total of 95.8 - 134.6 mil xp to get all of his attributes to max level.

Please note that chars will still be limited to the 8 skills and cannot get their attributes past 12 without runes or headgear.

EDIT: This would work ONLY for PvE, if some smart guy tries to enter with more than 200 points equipped, they are reduced to 200 and the extra pts he gained are hidden/disabled while in pvp areas.

Do you even think about PvP?

*EDIT*
Let me clear myself up...

This game is balanced...a guy with 50 mil XP would gain 25 attributes....enough to like say..power up distortion to a decent level...55 monks can get 50 mil XP I guess...so they're useful in high-end GvG using distortion with the extra attributes.

Now, I go make a PvP-Only monk...oops! I took 10 inspiration, 12 divine, and the rest in protection prayers...now what do you think? If I'd use distortion..bye bye energy....

The game is balanced because of these 200 attribute points....Leave it the way it is

However, do something PvE-ish with that extra XP, I wouldn't mind that!

Actually he would gain 250, but 50 mil xp is A LOT to do. I can't imagine ppl actually playing their chars just for the attribute pts. Remember that chars can only use 8 skills at a time but being able to pump more attributes could only help gameplay. Air magic works well with water magic but the fact that one must reduce energy storage limits the combo playability.

Also Witchblade, the max survivor title is at less than 2 million xp and if you die you've had it. I have my war from prophecies who of course had no clue about this survivor title coming up and so he didn't mind dying a couple (over 300) of times. What are all those who didn't manage the survivor title supposed to do?

Here's a more non-pvp-destroying idea.

We expand on mechanics already present in the game - Celestial Skills, Infused Armour, etc.

Provide special NPCs where you can use excessive amounts of Skill Points to:

- buy items that replace a skill on your bar with a "special" skill. You can only activate such an item once a day or something, and only inside pve instances.

-give your armour and weapons fancy-assed properties similar to Infusion that only work in PvE.

I guess PvE only players for whom unlocking is meaningless then have an opportunity to burn their spare Skill Points on something fancy but only useful in PvE.

Prism, you still don't get the PvP-side of my answer? If he has 250 extra attributes...man..that's 4 attribute lines maxed out...

What's Ractoth (sp?) experience at? Or the highest you've seen?

I like Rieselle's idea better...

I think you need more imagination

No this will not be happening... ever. Personally I like not having to level up forever and still enjoy ALL the upper level content.

just save up the skill points for chapter 3 XD

Maybe if the extra earned att pts are limited to PvE use? I think this would make PvPers happy. Chars cannot enter battle isles with more than 200 att pts on. If one has more than 200, they are returned to the 'att pt pool' and are hidden/temp disabled.

EDIT: Rieselle's idea isn't bad, but the thing that they can only be used a limited number of times a day doesn't sound good. How is one supposed to experiment new combos involving those?

I think ANet would also like to keep PvE balanced as well. Upper level content is balanced towards level 20 chars w/ 200 attribute points. This way they don't have to balance areas for level 20 chars w/ 215 then 250 and upwards to infinity.

I might be wrong but I think you are forgetting that chars can only carry 8 skills at a time. Also, if we keep it pve, who cares if chars can make more deadly combos? No combo will kill the undead lich or shiro in 1 or 2 hits anyway. Ppl still wouldn't be able to do the same in pvp.

I will never, NEVER say that xp would grant extra skill slots even if they make it 100k xp or more each.

The 8 skills limit is there for other reasons.

Let's take a R/N beast master.. max expertise, max beast mastery, max blood magic... Ferocious strike to fuel energy, blood magic for vampiric touching...now THAT would be overpowered....( But nvm it, you say it's PvE only )

Now...Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood ARE PvP missions with PvE people...

The stronger you are, the more likely you will get more faction, causing a pretty imbalance faction-wise...( Amber and Jadeite )

What about new farming builds that may rise due to more attribute points? Imbalance on the market....

Basically, whatever you do with skillpoints...DO NOT CHANGE THE GUILD WARS COMBAT SYSTEM

Imbalance on the market... as if ppl don't manage to farm even as it is. My idea is just to open up new mob-crushing combos. And as for the jade quarry thing, if it has pvp, then 200 att pts only pls.

Maybe when you get to certain amounts of xp it could 'unlock' certain superficail options for you character like eye patch's, scars, new hair or something.

PvE is already easy enough. There's no need for this except for to please people that like to grind and try to prove they are better than others with statistics. That's not what Guild Wars PvE is about. Over time this would give veterans and grinders to the game more power over newcomers and would create an imbalance.

So more experience giving characters superficial benefits or other things like this as someone pointed out would be interesting, but more experience making characters more powerful even in PvE is a poorly thought out idea that would just increase imbalance the longer the game is around. There's a reason they made 200 attributes the max. Accept it and focus on improving the game in aspects that need improving.
